Diversity and inclusion commitment

Our services support the safety, security and prosperity of all Australians. The diversity and inclusivity of our culture helps us:

  • understand the needs of our customers
  • make better decisions
  • provide great products and services
  • respond to new challenges for our customers and organisation.

We constantly work to strengthen our practices and ways of working. This enables us to:

  • achieve business priorities
  • ensure everyone in our workforce can succeed at work.

Our priorities

We measure and track our progress against how we:

  • welcome and respect all people and perspectives
  • create an environment that respects and meets different needs
  • ensure equal access to growth and opportunities.

Shared commitment and partnerships

Our Employee Diversity Networks help colleagues of all identities:

  • enhance their sense of belonging
  • build careers at the Bureau.

These networks are supported by strong governance and partnerships. This helps to:

  • promote our commitment
  • drive progress as a shared responsibility
  • provide consistency in all our initiatives at an enterprise level.

Reconciliation commitment

First Nations Office

Our First Nations Office works to recognise the importance of the:

  • voice, strengths and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • key role they play in our success.

Established in 2024, this office works across the Bureau to support:

  • initiatives and programs that contribute to priority reforms
  • important contributions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australian life
  • acknowledgement of their continuing connection to Country for more than 60,000 years. This includes their extensive knowledge and history of ancient weather systems. Learn more about Indigenous weather knowledge.

Building reconciliation into our business

Our vision for reconciliation includes:

  • recognising and growing opportunities to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • building genuine partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • seeking opportunities for traditional knowledge to contribute to the Bureau's work. This includes contributing to science-based solutions for national weather and climate challenges.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan outlines our responsibilities and obligations.

It shows how we will support relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples. This benefits all Australians.

We developed the plan with Reconciliation Australia. The plan:

  • aims to create respectful relationships with, and sustainable opportunities for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • challenges us to play our part in advancing the cause of reconciliation in Australia. We do this by embedding reconciliation initiatives into what we do, so that it becomes business as usual.

Shared commitment

All areas of the Bureau are engaged and accountable for delivering the plan. This includes senior leaders.

Through this collective commitment, we drive reconciliation through our programs, partnerships, and services. We do this while respecting cultural protocols and enhancing our cultural capability.
