Services for the aviation sector
To help the Australian aviation industry operate safely and minimise the impact of weather, we:
- watch and report on environmental conditions that affect aviation
- provide observations, forecasts, warnings and advice
- supply specialised briefings and displays of meteorological conditions
- foster a better understanding of meteorological hazards, and products and services across the industry.
We meet Australia's obligations under international agreements for the provision of meteorological services. We provide our services within the technical and regulatory framework of the:
- International Civil Aviation Organization
- World Meteorological Organization.

Providing meteorological services to aviation
To provide a meteorological reporting service that may be relied on by an operator or a pilot in command of an aircraft in Australia, you need approval from the Bureau of Meteorology.
