Hello from the Bureau, here's a look at this week's weather forecast from Sunday the 17th of August.

The weekend has been clear and sunny in most areas. The only precipitation of note has been the showers, hail and alpine snow which has peppered Victoria, Tasmania and southern parts of New South Wales and South Australia.

This continues today with areas either side of the Victoria/South Australia border getting the most significant falls, although still mostly in the single digit range.

Scattered showers affect New South Wales and ACT on Monday, without impacting other parts of the country. These showers are mostly light, until tending heavier along the east coast in the afternoon or evening, marking the start of another wet spell in what has already been a very wet month for coastal New South Wales.

And wet weather continues on Tuesday, affecting New South Wales as well as southern parts of Queensland. Meanwhile a cold front arrives in the far west, filled with rain along with the risk of severe thunderstorms in Perth. In between the east and west coastlines, a fine day with cool mornings and nights.

The east coast remains the focus for further showers into Wednesday. From the Burnett in Queensland, right down to the Illawarra in New South Wales, of course including both Brisbane and Sydney. Showers also persist in the south-west of the country and it's dry but warmer in between.

Unfortunately, there's likely to be yet more rain in the east on Thursday, perhaps the wettest day of the week. If so, this would mean the flood risk is at its highest for eastern rivers due to the saturated landscape and persistent falls. Minimal rain anywhere outside of southern Queensland or New South Wales on Thursday.

It's looking likely the wet weather may linger one more day into Friday before clearing on the weekend, and this rain could also spread further south, meaning a wet end to the week for Victoria and Tasmania, and maybe some parts of South Australia.

That’s all from me today, we will see you again next time.
