G’day from the Bureau with your national weather forecast around the country for Tuesday the 14th of October. We have a bit of weather going on, but nothing major thanks to this very large ridge of high pressure right across southern parts of the country. We do have a cold front though moving through Tasmania. We also see showers and thunderstorms as well through Queensland and up across northern parts of the country as well. So watch out for that.

Well we’re going to see heat build across parts of WA as that low-pressure trough deepens there. But really, it’s going to be a fairly quiet day away from those storms and cold front. So let’s have a look at all of that in more detail.

Firstly, in Queensland, we’re going to see another mild day with showers and thunderstorms right across inland and northern parts of the state as well. We could see some possible heavy falls and gusty winds with storms up through there too, so watch out for those. Pretty warm across western areas, getting into the mid to high 30s there. A little bit cooler through southeastern parts of the state thanks to some cooler southeasterly breezes there. Brisbane looking at a partly cloudy day and 26 degrees.

Moving down into New South Wales, a pretty quiet day generally right across the state thanks to that large ridge of high pressure system, that you can see there dominating much of the state. We could see temperatures and lots of sunshine in the mid to high 20s along the coast, just a little bit warmer inland, getting up to around 30 degrees there. But sunshine really being the story of the day right across New South Wales. Sydney looking at 27 degrees and lots of sunshine. Canberra 22 degrees and lots of sunshine as well.

Moving down into Victoria, it’ll be a similar story, although southern parts of the state will see this cold front just sweep across Bass Strait during the afternoon and evening. That could bring a few light showers to southern parts of Victoria. Elsewhere though it will be a warm and dry day. Temperatures in the low to mid 20s across northern parts, low teens to near 20 degrees through southern parts of the state. Melbourne looking at 21 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

Different story though in Tasmania, thanks to this cold front sweeping across the state during the day. It’s going to bring showers, gusty winds, maybe a chance for an isolated storm and small hail as well. And maybe some flurries about the highest peak as well behind that change. Generally a wet day through much of western Tasmania, but little if any rainfall getting to eastern parts of the state there, and pretty mild as well. Temperatures around 18 degrees in Hobart with a possible shower, but much cooler in the west, in the low teens down there.

Moving up into South Australia, and high pressure will be dominating the weather as well. We could see a few early showers through southern agricultural areas and coastal parts during the morning, but that will clear off from the late morning and into the afternoon for a dry and partly cloudy day for many. Temperatures in the low 20s right across southern parts of South Australia, getting up into the 30s though across northern parts of South Australia with lots of sunshine. Adelaide looking at 21 degrees and a possible morning shower.

Moving over into WA, the heat will be building through inland areas and across the north as well. We’re likely to see temperatures there in the high 30s to near 40 degrees. It will be cooler though down in south-western parts of WA, and that’s thanks to some cooler onshore flow there. Generally dry right across the state with little if any rainfall. Perth looking at a nice sunny day and 25 degrees.

Finally, across the tropical north well we’re starting to move into the build-up season now. We do see widespread showers and thunderstorms across Cape York, the Gulf, the Top End and over into the Kimberley as well, with those hit-and-miss shower and thunderstorms occurring. Some of those will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Temperatures generally in the mid to high 30s, as you’d expect away from the thunderstorms, and humidity increasing as well as you’d also expect this time of year. Darwin looking at a shower, possible storm and 35 degrees.

And that’s it for your weather right around the country. Remember, you can get the latest forecasts and warnings via our website and app. And we'll see you again tomorrow.
