G’day from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast around the country for Wednesday, the 10th of September. All eyes will be on the low-pressure system moving through New South Wales, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms, with possible heavy falls and severe storms. That rain and storm activity also spreads to parts of South Australia, inland Queensland, and may even scrape the northern parts of Victoria.

Behind that low-pressure system, cool and showery conditions will affect southern parts of South Australia. Showers are also expected for western and southern Tasmania, while elsewhere a large high-pressure system will bring cool and dry conditions to much of western and central Australia. We could even see a few showers and thunderstorms through the Kimberley and the Top End, as some moisture lingers there.

In Queensland, we’ll be watching shower and thunderstorm activity in the west, then through the southern interior during the day and into the afternoon. These may reach south-eastern parts of the state in the evening. Ahead of this system, very warm and sunny conditions are expected across much of eastern Queensland, with temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s. Behind the system, it’ll be much cooler, only into the low 20s around Birdsville. Brisbane will have a sunny day with 29 degrees, but cloud will build in the afternoon and there could be a late shower or an inland thunderstorm.

Moving down into New South Wales, the focus is on the low-pressure system bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to much of the state, with heavy falls possible—especially along the ranges and in southern and central areas. For more information, check out our latest Severe Weather Video on our socials and website. Temperatures will sit in the low to mid 20s, but cooler inland with readings in the mid to high teens. Sydney is looking at a wet 21 degrees, while Canberra will be cooler with 15 degrees and showers, possibly tending to rain at times.

In Victoria, the low-pressure system will scrape the Murray River and northern parts of the state, bringing widespread rain and showers there. It will be pretty cool across the state with southerly winds and temperatures in the low teens for many areas. Southern parts will see only isolated showers, while rain continues through the north and then the east. Melbourne will have a cool and showery day at 13 degrees, but with long fine breaks between the showers.

In Tasmania, a calmer day is on the way, though it remains quite cool across much of the state with temperatures in the low teens. Showers are expected across the western and southern parts, but elsewhere it will be mostly dry and mostly cloudy. Hobart is looking at 13 degrees with cloudy skies.

For South Australia, rain will continue through southern and eastern parts during the morning and early afternoon, clearing by the evening. Coastal showers will linger in the onshore southerly flow across southern parts of the state. Further north, it will be dry and mild with gusty winds but no rainfall. Cooler in the south, with temperatures in the mid-teens. Adelaide will see 15 degrees and a few showers.

Over in Western Australia, much calmer and drier conditions are expected thanks to the high-pressure system. There may be a few showers in coastal areas, with temperatures in the mid-teens. Eucla will see 16 degrees. The south-west will be mostly dry, and Perth is looking at 20 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Further north, it’ll be warm, dry, and sunny.

Finally, across the Northern Territory, a band of showers and thunderstorms—very hit-and-miss—will move through parts of the NT, later developing in the Top End and parts of the Kimberley. It will be cooler in southern NT with temperatures in the low 20s, while northern areas will be much warmer, with temps in the mid to high 30s. Darwin is looking at 33 degrees, with a possible afternoon shower or storm in inland areas.
