Hello, with your National Weather Forecast as we take a look at conditions heading into tomorrow. That's Saturday the 30th of August, and then a quick look at your Sunday. First to the synoptic map, and although we are in the final days of winter, south-eastern parts of the country continue to feel the chill with damaging winds, showers and snow down to low levels for parts of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales. And for more information on that, be sure to check out our dedicated Severe Weather Video Update, and that's available on our social media channels.

We'll see that system clearing out through the day, and so showers will gradually start to ease as this high pressure system out towards the west starts to assert itself. So by the evening, showers will mostly contract to the far south-east of the country and mainly about the coast. But the high pressure system is pushing drier and colder air up into central and northern parts of the country. And that's also pushing up those fire dangers. Out in the west though we are seeing settled conditions again, and that's after quite a wet month of August across western parts of the country.

So now, a state by state look starting off in Queensland. It will be a sunny day across the state, but temperatures will be noticeably cooler than the last few days. That's due to these cold west to south-westerly winds pushing all the way to the coast, and also all the way up into northern parts of the state. Winds will be fresh at times across the southern areas, and so you will feel a bit of a wind chill, including around the south-east of the state. So Brisbane, it will be a dry day, but windy with a bit of a wind chill, a top of 22 °C, calmer and partly cloudy up in Cairns with 31 °C.

To New South Wales, you’ll see widespread showers and damaging winds about the Western Slopes during the morning. Showers may spill over to the south coast, but otherwise through the day, as that cold front and trough push off, we will see showers becoming more isolated and wind easing up into the afternoon as well. Snow down to 700 metres across the south-east in the morning, and blizzard conditions are possible, and snow down to about 900 metres across Northern Tablelands. But through the day, we will see conditions becoming more settled and milder and the snow level will start to rise. So for Sydney it will be a dry day, partly cloudy, 18 °C but a bit of a wind chill coming through. Otherwise in Canberra, a possible morning shower, but afternoon breaks of sunshine with a top of 13 °C. Mostly dry across other parts of the state.

Now to Victoria. We will see damaging winds, gusty showers as well as low level snow right from the get go. We will see conditions easing across western districts through the morning and pushing through Melbourne, and the easing trend continuing across eastern parts of the state. Snow down to about 700 metres during the morning. We may see blizzard conditions across the alpine areas, but by the afternoon showers will mostly contract towards the south coast and winds will gradually ease from the west. So for Melbourne showers and wind easing, a bit of a wind chill as well. Just 13 °C, dry and milder up in the north, 15 degrees for you in Mildura.

For Tasmania, cold, wet and snowy to start with. Snow down to about 400 metres in the south in the morning. Those showers will gradually clear up during the late morning, but then in the afternoon we will see another pulse of showers coming through, mainly to the west and the south of the state. So for Hobart, a few showers in the morning. We will see a dry period in the afternoon, but showers will redevelop later on during the day. A top of 13 °C. Dry but also cloudy across the north, 13 °C for Launceston.

Now to South Australia. Very isolated showers about the coast in the morning. They'll clear off pretty quickly but will be cloudy across the south and cold southerly winds will push all the way into the north. Temperatures dropping back down towards the teens up there. It will remain quite cool across the south of the state. Adelaide, a cloudy day. The slight chance of a shower, mostly before dawn with a top of 14 °C, and as you can see, remaining quite cool across the state for your Saturday.

Now towards the west, we will see a bit of frost around the southern part of the Wheatbelt during the morning, but this high pressure system will stick around over the weekend. So for Western Australia, we are expecting a settled and dry day for the most part. Just a bit of cloud across the Eucla. We'll see elevated fire dangers though, with windy conditions pushing all the way up towards the Pilbara. Perth, cooler morning, 6 °C, then a sunny top of 20 °C to follow.

Now to northern Australia. We'll see that cold air pushing up all the way to the north of the country. So temperatures will fall a little bit across the interior, but we are expecting to see elevated fire dangers and extreme fire danger tomorrow for the Barkley North, extreme fire danger for Darwin from Sunday. Although tomorrow we are looking at a partly cloudy day with 33 °C. Warm and windy into the Kimberley.

Now into your Sunday. You will see showers continue about the south-east of the country, but the worst of it will have moved off into the Tasman Sea. So just a few showers for South Australia, Victoria and also Tasmania. Drier across New South Wales and also warming up across the south-eastern and capitals. It will be a cold start in Sydney for the marathon, 7 °C, but a sunny top of 19 °C and milder conditions across the south-east of the country. Remaining sunny in Perth, 20 °C, and continuing to be warm across the north.

That's your forecast for today. Stay up to date with the latest information over the weekend on our website and app, follow us on social media and as always, have a great weekend.
