Explore our public information

You can access a wide range of our information without making a freedom of information request.

This includes weather and climate data, and water information.

Historical documents, including statistical climate data for Australia back to the 1850s, are available from the National Archives of Australia.

The National Meteorological Library holds a specialised collection of books, reports and journals relating to meteorology and related sciences.

How to make a freedom of information (FOI) request

Anyone can ask to see documents we hold. You need to ask in writing and:

  • clearly identify the information you are seeking
  • state that you are making this request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Commonwealth)
  • include your email or postal address.

Information already released for FOI requests – disclosure log

We publish information released under FOI in our disclosure log, up to 10 working days after giving it to the person who made the request.

What's in our disclosure log

Our disclosure log includes:

  • copies of documents released under FOI
  • information that we routinely provide in response to FOI requests.

It does not include:

  • information exempt from release under FOI
  • documents about an individual or business released in response to an FOI request from them.
